Lee Hysan Foundation Music Family Hub Annual Concert 2025 "Viva La Music"

19 Jul 2025

The Sports Centre “Transformed” into a Concert Hall!

Music Children Foundation (MCF) held its annual concert on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at the Sham Shui Po Sports Centre — with a spectacular twist! The venue was completely “transformed” from a sports centre into a vibrant stage filled with music, joy, and a strong sense of community. Sponsored by the “Lee Hysan Foundation Music Family Hub” programme, students, parents, and conductors came together to deliver a heartfelt performance. Despite the looming threat of Typhoon Signal No. 8, the entire concert was successfully completed just before the storm arrived. The performers and audience alike demonstrated an inspiring level of commitment and support that was truly touching.

From the moment guests stepped inside, they were greeted by cheerful and thoughtfully crafted decorations — a lively atmosphere brought to life by youth volunteers, parents, and the community working hand in hand. A major highlight of the evening was the photo exhibition, which showcased members of the orchestra and choir performing in uniquely local Hong Kong settings: markets, public housing estates, transitional shelters, walled villages, and even in front of old-style iron gates bearing the marks of time. Through these captivating images, the exhibition captured how music can resonate throughout the community.

Adding a personal touch, MCF students served as enthusiastic docents for the exhibition, guiding guests through each photo and sharing the stories behind them. Their warmth and passion left a lasting impression on every attendee, making the exhibition an even more meaningful experience.

More Than Just a Concert — A Joyful Celebration On and Off Stage!

This wasn’t just a concert — it was a festive celebration of joy shared by performers and audience alike!

The event was filled with interactive moments and delightful surprises. The audience didn’t simply sit and listen — they became part of the experience, fully immersed in the fun and excitement!

  • Under the conductor Mr. Ray Tsoi, the string orchestra opened with “Die Fledermaus Overture”, inviting the audience to flap their arms like bats in flight. In a particularly charming moment, some audience members even joined the performers on stage to waltz along to the music — a truly magical scene of shared rhythm and joy.
  • MCF founder Monique, choir conductor Bobo, instructors Cloris and Enoch, along with special guest Ms. Kathryn Holtkamp, led an impromptu interactive sing-along with the audience, lifting the energy in the room to new heights.
  • During transitions between acts, hundreds of audience members passed around giant balloons to the beat of the music, filling the venue with laughter and playfulness.
  • The final song of “Jai Ho” brought the concert to an exhilarating climax — with performers and audience waving scarves in unison, cheering together, and celebrating in a dazzling finale. It was the perfect ending to an unforgettable night of music, connection, and shared joy.
