Community Music Facilitator Training Program
A comprehensive one‑year music facilitator training program.
- Bringing music into the community to create joy and enhance artistic appreciation

The programme consists of four key components, thoughtfully designed by our professional team:
1. Four Core Workshops
Led by international and local artists : Zuza Gonçalves, Joanne Lauterjung, Thomas Chiu and Bobo Lo offering multi‑perspective training in music facilitation.
2. Practical Experience: Building Confidence
Participants will gain hands‑on experience through community activities, allowing them to practise in real public settings and accumulate valuable facilitation skills.
3. Ongoing Support: Professional Growth
Continuous guidance and feedback from our professional team to help participants further enhance and expand their teaching and facilitation techniques.
4. Certificate of Completion: Reflection & Integration
Upon completing the programme, participants will receive a certificate and take part in a reflection session to consolidate their learning.
Target Participants:
- Current kindergarten, primary, and secondary school teachers, and music education professionals (priority group) OR
- University or college students interested in pursuing a career in music education AND
- Aged 16 and above

1st : “Vocal Improvisation” (Ended)
We are honoured to have Dr. Bobo Lo, founder of WAO!Singers, and her team personally leading the workshop, guiding you to release yourself and connect with others through the most natural instrument of all — your voice.
2nd : “Música do Círculo” (Registration has closed)
Hailing from Brazil, Zuza will bring the Música do Círculo (Music Circle) experience to life by guiding parents and children to gather in a circle. Through singing, movement, sound games, and improvisation, participants will experience the true spirit of community music firsthand.

Professional Team
We invited a team of experienced professionals to contribute as hosts, mentors, and reviewers, ensuring the programme’s quality and learning outcomes.
Oversea Artists
Mr Zuza Gonçalves is a musician and teaching artist focusing particularly on vocal music and body percussion, he has explored alternative ways in collective music making for the last 20 years. Co-creator of the Música do Círculo practice, he is a member of the faculty at Bobby McFerrin's Circlesongs School, travels internationally for festivals and workshops and promotes retreats and trainings for the Música do Círculo Institute in Brazil and around.
Ms Joanne Lauterjung is a multi‑instrumentalist and vocal facilitator with 30+ years of international experience. Through SonicBloom, she leads participatory workshops using vocal improvisation and body percussion. With an MA in Conflict Transformation and training from Musicians Without Borders, she creates safe, judgment‑free spaces for exploring musicality.
Local Artists
Ms Monique Pong is a Hong Kong–based music educator, pianist, and arts practitioner dedicated to advancing inclusive, community‑focused music education. She holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education from the Royal College of Music, London, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Psychology and Neuroscience at King’s College London. After returning to Hong Kong, Monique devoted her career to music education across the lifespan, from early childhood learning to community music facilitation and teacher training. In 2013, she established the Music Children Foundation (MCF), a registered charity providing free, high‑quality music education to underprivileged children and families. Beyond education, Monique curates concerts and leads interdisciplinary workshops integrating live music, multimedia, and visual arts, exploring music as a medium for emotional regulation, social connection, and community empowerment.
Mr Thomas Chiu is a REMO Drum Circle Facilitator and Endorser (USA), as well as a Guest Lecturer at The Education University of Hong Kong. He is a Certified Global Drum Circle Facilitator with Village Music Circle (USA), and holds a Level 4 Drum Circle Facilitator and Apprentice Trainer qualification with VMC China. He is also an active member of Drum Circle Facilitator China (DCFC).
Dr Bobo Lo holds a Doctor of Education degree from EdUHK and CUHK, with professional qualification in voice and dance. She founded WAO!Singers in 2014 and serves as Choral Director of the Music Children Foundation and Music Director of the EdUHK Chorus promoting choral and community music development.
Follow-up Mentors
Ms Wong Wai Ching, Zerlina, teaches in CCA Department of EdUHK, specialising in training music teachers across school levels. She leads workshops and teacher training, develops materials for young children and learners with special needs, and serves in key roles within the Hong Kong Orff Schulwerk Association and as a kindergarten board member.
Ms Melody Chan trained in Suzuki piano and Dalcroze Eurhythmics and integrates both into her teaching. With a master’s degree from HKBU and professional qualifications, she teaches and advises on curriculum, recently focusing on music’s role in supporting physical, emotional, and cognitive well‑being in elderly.
Ms Gigi Lam is dedicated to interdisciplinary research and practice in music education, community music, and health and wellbeing. Her work explores how music can promote social inclusion, as well as its applications and impact within healthcare settings. She graduated from EdUHK and holds a PhD from the Royal College of Music (RCM).
Dr Bobo Lo holds a Doctor of Education degree from EdUHK and CUHK, with professional qualification in voice and dance. She founded WAO!Singers in 2014 and serves as Choral Director of the Music Children Foundation and Music Director of the EdUHK Chorus promoting choral and community music development.
Project Development Team
Dr Priscila Chu is a composer and multidisciplinary artist whose practice is grounded in collaboration as both method and philosophy. She creates human centered, concept driven works that draw from multiple art forms to shape a unified aesthetic and offer reflective, immersive experiences. She views art as both process and outcome—a means of cultivating connection across disciplines, communities, worldviews, and spiritual perspectives. Her background includes a Bachelor’s in Music from York University, a PgDE and a Master’s in Education (Psychology) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, an IBEC, and a PhD from Hong Kong Baptist University, alongside diverse teaching experience that informs her integrated approach to creation, research, and education.
Ms Sheeta Ng is a Hong Kong–based cultural curator, producer, and music educator whose work integrates music, mindfulness, and social impact. Known for cross-disciplinary collaborations, she creates arts platforms that address societal needs and foster civic dialogue. In 2026, she curated the Hong Kong Fringe Club’s Fringe Festival and led Flowtitude, an international project under the Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship exploring creativity, health, and civic engagement. She has delivered landmark programmes for Tai Kwun, West Kowloon, Hong Chi Association, and TWGHs. Sheeta holds an M.A. in Cultural Management, marketing and music therapy training, and ABRSM Grade 8 in piano and voice.
Mr Ian Mok is an award‑winning musician, educator, and arts‑and‑health consultant based in Hong Kong. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Music at Hong Kong Baptist University, researching how music enhances happiness and community well‑being. A graduate of Harvard University and Duke University School of Law, he is a leading advocate for the role of music in wellbeing, informed by his pioneering research on music, happiness, and intergenerational communities. He lectures on music and meditation at Hong Kong Baptist University, was shortlisted for the Hong Kong Innovation and Technology Scholarship (2024/2025, and was awarded the Global Arts in Medicine Fellowship (2025).
As a cellist, baritone, and composer, he has performed internationally, including for King Charles III and at Westminster Abbey.
Mr Jesse Chiu began playing the clarinet at eight. He graduated with First Class Honours in Music from CUHK and earned a Master of Music in Performance from the Royal College of Music. He presented his 2025 recital Cherry Blossom of Life, leading to a commissioned concerto premiering in 2026. Jesse served as concertmaster in the 2024 WASBE Youth Wind Orchestra and is now Assistant Conductor at the Music Children Foundation and founder of Hong Kong Pavilion Winds. In arts management, he has worked with HKNME and HKU’s Cultural Management Office, and now coordinates Community Music initiatives at MCF.
